Mark Westlake - the roll model

Mark   Classically trained for brass from 11, he first learnt to play the guitar at the age of 14 and wrote his first (of many) songs in 1983. In 1984, he founded his first (and best ...until now) band "The Herb Garden". Mark has had plenty of live performance experience, doing the folk circuit (not playing folk music, however) and visiting the festivals. Lots of gigs with "The Herb Garden" including festival appearances at "The Picnic", Ilton and subsequently, playing in 5 or 6 bands over the years.

Although Mark claims vigorously that he is not a lead guitarist, you wouldn't believe it to hear him go for it on tracks like "Falling down again" and "Crossing that line".

Fave artist Dave Gilmour (Pink Floyd) and Frank Zappa Mark
Fave album L. A. Woman (The Doors)
Recordings Many home grown and demo.
Biggest influence Dire Straits, Pink Floyd, Zappa and Simply Red. The biggest influence on Mark's playing has been audience feedback. "Gimme that buzz."
